In light of a number of burglaries recently, Gardai are making an appeal to people to secure their homes and not to leave doors or windows open when they leave.

Overnight between Sunday and Monday of this week (15/16th), there was a burglary at the handball alley in Mitchelstown, where a quantity of cash and property was stolen. If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area, they are asked to inform the Gardai.

There was another burglary in Fermoy in Rathealy Heights and a spokesperson for Fermoy Gardai said that with the days becoming darker, people should adhere to crime prevention tactics and make sure that their property is secure and that alarms are used.

The spokesperson added that windows should be closed before people leave their homes, if even for a short while and over the next few months, as people begin to purchase home heating oil, they should also be mindful of securing their tanks and having them placed in a well lit area.
