Garda allegedly assaulted at Fermoy rally

Gardaí in Fermoy continue to investigate an alleged assault on Thursday evening last on a member of An Garda Síochana, an incident which preceded a ‘serious’ assault on another member of An Garda Síochana on Saturday in the Ballymun area of Dublin, that occurred after Gardaí responded to a call regarding dangerous driving.

Video footage of the Fermoy incident, at Barrack Hill in the town, appeared online, being recorded during another ‘Ireland is Full’ rally. A number of such rallies have taken place in the town to date, in opposition to refugees and asylum seekers being accommodated locally at a new centre in the former St Joseph’s Convent.
