Saturday, 6th April saw 30 runners from the club line up at the start line of the Doneraile Park 5K race. This was a first race for the majority of our runners and all our beginners group had been working hard towards this for the past seven weeks. This hard work paid off and evidence of this could be seen on the day with everyone completing the run and with plenty of smiles to be seen.

Conditions on the day couldn’t have been better and the course was flat with beautiful scenery on show. A total of 268 runners took part and the race was won by John Downes of Donore Harriers in a time of 16mins 31 secs. The first lady home was Carol Finn of Leevale AC in a time of 18mins 40secs.

Galtee Runners would like to congratulate all our members who took part and hope everyone sincerely enjoyed it and look forward to the next one. A big thanks to North Cork AC who organised the race.

CLUB NIGHTS GOING STRONG

Our club nights are going great with big numbers turning up every Tuesday and Friday night. Our beginners group have completed 7 weeks now and there is no holding them back. Now that the evenings are brighter we have started to change our routes and mix it up a little. Everyone is well into the swing of it now and we would ask everyone to spread their wings a little and push on with their next goal in mind. We are at the start of a packed running season so everyone will have different goals in mind.

New runners are welcome at any club night at any stage and we will always have a team of experienced runners on hand to help and encourage them along. Don’t be afraid to come up because once you start you wont want to stop.

ROAD SAFETY

Now that the evenings are brighter and we are taking to some country roads we would just like to alert members of the public to expect us on the roads especially on a Tuesday and Friday night between 7pm and 9pm. We also advise all our members to continue wearing high visibility clothing and be very alert and aware on the roads and obey all rules of the road. We would like to thank members of the public for the courtesy shown to us while running, it is greatly appreciated.

WELL DONE MICK

Mick Casey or ‘Marathon Man Mick’ as he is now known, completed the Connemara Ultra Marathon last Sunday. This is a gruelling 39.3 mile course in the wilds of Connemara and takes extreme endurance to complete. Mick completed the race in 7 hours and 7 mins. Just another day at the office to Mick. Well done Mick from all at the club.

CLUB NIGHT MEETINGS

Club nights are every Tuesday and Friday at 7.15pm, outside Brigown Cemetery gates. Everyone is welcome. Wear bright, reflective clothing.
