Galbally National School was packed to the rafters last week as students and staff, past and present, gathered with members of the community for the launch of the school’s new book.

The book, Galbally NS 50 Years and More, was launched to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the new school in Galbally. It details the history of education in the area going back 125 years, including the new school, the old school in Lowtown and hedge schools in the area.

Past pupils of the old school in Lowtown, where Galbally community hall stands today, Maggie Caulfield, Mary-Kate Casey and Eileen Fahey, all in their 90s, were in attendance at the event.

The ladies were all in the same classroom at school said it was a lot different in their day.
