Styled as a ‘funeral removal’ by organisers, the third anti-Irish Water protest in Fermoy will be a silent march through the town. Special guest Claire Cullinane, Independent councillor for Cobh, will address the crowd following the march.

Beginning at 2pm this Saturday from Ennis Street, adjacent to St Colman’s College, the march will proceed down MacCurtain Street, around Pearse Square, then finishing outside the office of Cork East TD, Tom Barry on Patrick Street.

The reason for the silent march, according to organiser Pat Conroy, is to ‘highlight people’s total disgust at the €700 million wasted already on Irish Water’. He added that the ‘burial of Irish Water’ will take place on April 1, when billing begins. Co-organiser William Hughes said this silent march will be the first of its kind in the country, and he is confident of a large turnout on the day.
