Due to the increase in numbers in Castlelyons school, the existing car park could not accommodate the bigger volume of traffic - forcing parents to park on the road, which was dangerous for parents and children alike.
Before Christmas, the school's Board of Management, the Parent's Association and Castlelyons Community Council came together with the help of the Community Employment Scheme under the supervision of Assumpta Magan to complete an extension to the car park, which can now comfortably hold an additional 25 spaces.
A spokesperson behind the project said that since it has opened, it has been of huge benefit to other users including those using the Fr Ferris Community Field and the playground and later in the year, it will be of great use for the homecoming festival.
To help fundraise for the car park, which is already benefitting so many people in the community, there will be a table quiz on March 1 at 8pm sharp in the Castlelyons Community Centre. Tables of four are €20 and prizes include a €250 voucher for East Cork Oil, a Nikon F3300 16 mega pixel digital camera and a meal voucher.
Pre-booking is advisable but not essential. For more information contact Lisa on 086-1660288 or Helen on 086-1701164.
Recently, there was also an Interschool Table Quiz held in Castlelyons on February 8, with 50 teams from local schools turning out on the night. The organisers would like to thank all of the parents and people from the community who helped out on the night. Castlelyons NS came first, St Martins from Kilworth claimed second prize, Carrig na Bhfearr came third and Ballyduff NS came fourth.
