Funding of €300,000 is being sought by Cork County Council from the NRA to repair the minor roads used as national secondary routes when the realignment works were being carried out on the N72 in recent months.
The heavy volume of traffic, including lorries and other heavy vehicles re-routed over what are minor roads for a number of months, caused considerable damage to road surfaces.
“They were broken up by the diverted traffic,” Tom Barry TD said this week. He has lobbied for the funding to be allocated and says he’s hopeful that it will be forthcoming.
