Calls have continued for the reopening of the Mitchelstown Bank of Ireland branch as Covid-19 restrictions have been eased. 

As reported previously in The Avondhu, there have been strong concerns about the likelihood of the BOI unit in the town opening again. 

Cllr Deirdre O’Brien had raised concerns that the bank could take the view that they would consolidate their retail presence to Fermoy. 

Now Cllr O’Brien has called on officials to reopen the branch stating that it is a critical facility for the local community. 

“I have a number of questions for Bank of Ireland. Those who were deemed ‘essential service’ were allowed to stay open …”
