Fota Wildlife Park has been recognised by Tripadvisor in the past having been awarded the certificate of excellence for the last number of years and is currently ranked as the No 1 thing to do in Cork.

"Today's announcement from Tripadvisor is great achievement for the Cork attraction as Fota Wildlife Park is placed in 24th out of over 300 zoos and parks that exist across Europe," head of marketing at Fota, Stephen Ryan said.

"We are delighted that the public regard us as one of the best animal parks in Europe, we have invested a lot in the park over the last couple of years and today's placing is a welcome acknowledgment for the work that we are doing".

Fota Wildlife Park last week opened the second phase of its Asian Sanctuary which is home to a two and a half year old Indian rhino, Jamil. This followed on from the successful opening of the Tiger Forest and Tropical House in 2014 which brought a record number of 438,000 visitors to the park making it the most visited attraction in the south west of Ireland.
