Over the past few months, the Forrest Hall building in New Square, Mitchelstown has been a hive of activity as Mitchelstown Community Council (MCC) has been transforming it into a central hub for the community.

PRO for MCC Michael White, brought this journalist on a tour of the building this week and the progress that has been made is inspiring.

The community council had to put in a lot of groundwork. This project has been in the pipeline for a number of years, so many members of the community are delighted to see it progressing so steadily.

Contractors Fox and O’Rourke have been making great strides to transform the building from its former derelict state into a building that will become home to a number of organisations and groups from across the community.

The community council have been welcoming enquiries from a variety of groups and they are hopeful that Forrest Hall will be up and running as a wonderful facility for the town by September.

This Thursday (today, July 7), members of the community council will also be selling raffle tickets for €5 and buyers could end up winning tickets to Indiependence. Needless to say, all support would be greatly appreciated.

Many people would remember Forrest Hall in its former life as a dance hall and many a marriage was forged within its walls, so it is great to see it being given a new lease of life again by the community council.
