At the recent Fermoy Municipal District meeting, it was raised by Cllr Noel McCarthy that Fermoy should be nearing an end to the flood plan works, as he said he hopes it would be completed by July, but in light of the fact that works are still ongoing, he called for an update.

Engineer Brendan O'Gorman confirmed that the upcoming works on the bridge would be happening soon and Cllr McCarthy stressed the importance of having Gardai in place from the start for these works, so that disruption can be minimised.

"We are hitting the most critical part of the works, there will be a lot of pain over the next few weeks, but Gardai will be on the streets," Brendan added.

Cllr McCarthy cited the recent works on O'Neill Crowley Quay and said that Gardai need to be on duty from when the work commences on the bridge and not only when disruptions and delays arise.

He also called for the works on the bridge not to start until the courthouse road is finished, so that there aren't works on at different parts of the town at the same time and he was assured by the engineer that no two works would be done at the same time.

Cllr McCarthy is now hoping that Ger Barry of the OPW will be in a position to attend the Fermoy Municipal District's July meeting to give councillors an update, as he said that he has been very helpful with updates so far.
