Michael Flatley’s mansion at Castlehyde is back on the market at €7.5 million less than the 2015 asking price.
The ancestral home of Ireland’s first president Douglas Hyde, which lies on over 100 acres of land on the banks of the river Blackwater, is being sold by Sotheby’s International Realty property agents at an asking price of €12.5 million.
“I don’t mind taking the cut because I spent 20 of the best years of my life in that house,” Mr Flatley told the Wall Street Journal last week.
The luxurious home includes seven reception rooms, 12 bedroom suites, an indoor recreation complex with a swimming pool, a billiards room, a cinema, a whiskey room and two wine cellars.
The scenic grounds in the Blackwater Valley also have amenities like tennis courts, a driving range and a putting green.
It is likely that the mansion is aimed at US buyers who would’ve the funds to keep the house in tip-top shape.
Sotheby’s selling agent David Ashmore explained that the €12.5 million investment will not include valuable contents of the house.
“The concentration will be on the asset sale, with the majority of contents available to purchase through separate negotiation,” he said.
The Flatley home is certainly a home which should be enjoyed and it is hoped that this 37% price drop may be the carrot to entice a buyer.
