The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown has a good track record when it comes to hosting successful fundraisers and that was most certainly the case last Saturday night when several prominent charities banded together to host a first class night of music, song and dance. Those to benefit included: Pieta House, Marymount Hospice, Waterford Hospice and Let's Get Together (a suicide support group).

Foremost among the entertainers were the Ballyduff Upper based Booley House and those famed Waterford rogues, Bachelors In Trouble. There was no trouble in attracting patrons to this gig, each of whom paid €10 at the door. The auction was another effective money spinner with the bulk of items reaching their reserve - the top bid on the night was €650 for a Friesian heifer, generously donated by Lismore farmer John Dunne.

When it comes to auctions in Mitchelstown, colourful personality, Maurice Walsh isn't ever far away and right on cue, he turned up to assist last Saturday night.

Event co-ordinators were husband and wife team, Liam and Ciara Flanagan who also volunteered to have their heads shaved on the night. Ciara said the loss of her locks was a small price to pay for helping such outstanding causes, she thanked everyone who helped make the night possible.
