Local fire crews and gardai were called to a blaze at the former Convent buildings in Mitchelstown early on Monday morning, 8th April at approximately 5.30am.

Members of the Fire brigade battled the fire for over three hours before bringing it under control early this morning.

It is not yet known what caused the fire.

The area is currently cordoned off and is being treated as a crime scene as investigations continue.
