Bartlemy Ploughing Association hosted their annual event in Rathcormac last Sunday. Conditions were ideal for ploughing and there was a great turnout of ploughmen - mainly from the east Cork region.
A variety of excellent locations have been used over the years but this venue, a stone's throw from Rathcormac on the Glenville Road, is especially suitable. The extensive site is owned by local businessman, Pat Pyne who has been a good friend to Bartlemy Ploughing Association over the years. Association chairman, Dermot Dorgan said Pat was very obliging and always willing to help out.
A victory at the Bartlemy Ploughing Association is a feather in the cap of any competitor, and ploughmen took meticulous care when it came to turning the soil. To an untrained eye, all workmanship can look the same, however, an experienced panel of judges were on hand to separate the very good from the exceptional. Organising secretary, Martin Savage said it had been a great day's ploughing and he thanked his fellow commitee members for their assistance on the day.
With the approach of evening, ploughmen started to wind down and after the adjudication process was completed, it was on to the nearby Rathcormac Inn for results and some welcome refreshments. The general feedback from those taking part was very positive with universal praise of a well organised and well supported event.
