After 45 years of selling books to the people of Mitchelstown and its surrounds, Jim Hyland of Hyland’s Bookshop has decided to hang up his boots and retire, closing the bookshop on Lower Cork Street.
Mr Hyland spoke to The Avondhu about his years of service in the bookselling industry.
"The shop was originally a grocers, and my parents had it. We had a travelling shop too, and I used to drive the van for 11 years after I left school. We had a bookshop in the back, and then in 1979 we converted it all into a bookshop."
Schoolbook selling is a very hectic industry in the summer months, but Jim had an "all-hands-on-deck" approach to family help!
