Readers of The Avondhu sports pages will be familiar with the exploits of Fermoy Ladies Football Club. Reflecting the standing of the sport nationally, the club is going from strength to strength. While winning isn't the be all and end all of sport, it's always a nice feeling to get your hands on the cup and Fermoy have tasted their fair share of success in recent years.
The club's junior team is always to the fore, however, hot on their heels are a talented bunch of juveniles who have mastered the game in double quick time. This week the focus shifts to the U14 team who have booked a county final spot for themselves. Following impressive wins over Nemo Rangers and Roscarbery, the north Cork girls find themselves up against Douglas on Friday evening (28th June) in Watergrasshill. Douglas are no slouches at this grade and supporters can expect a really entertaining hour's football.
The Fermoy girls have the advantage of a really good group of mentors who look after them really well. Be it organising training, driving to matches, washing jerseys or providing first aid, this group can do the lot. The individuals in question are: Gary Harrington, P J Kenny, Brendan O'Callaghan, Genevieve Fanning and popular fruit and veg man, Paul O'Sullivan.
Training has gone well and excitement is building in advance of Friday evening's encounter. Another plus for the team is the level of support they receive and parents and friends are expected to travel in strength to Watergrasshill which, after all, is just up the road.
Everyone at the club wishes Fermoy the very best and if they play as well as they can, then another piece of silverware could be coming back to the pitch and putt club on Friday night.
Fixture
Friday 28th June in Watergrasshill at 8pm, Cork county U14 'B' final, Fermoy V Douglas.
