Fermoy traffic island markers need new lights

A request was made recently to Cork County Council to have traffic island lighting replaced in Fermoy, as it could lead to a possible accident.

The columns which illuminate traffic islands are not working on the Cork road in Fermoy and need to have their lights replaced, Councillor Noel McCarthy told the recent meeting of the Fermoy Local Area Committee of Cork County Council.

It’s hard for traffic to see them when they’re not lit, he pointed out, saying he’d had a number of representations from concerned people about the issue. He asked that lighting be restored as a matter of urgency as the islands being left unlit could be the cause of an accident.

The lighting matter has been referred to the county council’s public lighting section, he was told by senior area engineer Brendan O’Gorman, who said the columns themselves had recently been cleaned
