Works to start on Lios Oir houses by end of month

'When this upgrade is completed we'll be right up there with the best clubs in the country and second only to the National Snooker Academy in Carlow'. That's the view of Fermoy publican and chairman of Fermoy Snooker Club, Tom Aherne, as he surveyed the first phase of refurbishment work at Fermoy CMWS Hall.
The ambitious plans will see the home of Fermoy Snooker Club kitted out with 3 state of the art tables specially imported from China. The redevelopment will also include: new flooring, new carpet, new lighting system and revolutionary under table heating. The cost of the project is estimated at €30,000.
"This is a very serious investment and wouldn't have been possible without the Trojan work put in by the likes of Ken Butterworth, David Joyce, Margaret Corcoran, David Whelan, Alan Cleary, William Hughes and Mick Casey along with our dedicated FAS team of Geraldine Butterworth (supervisor), John McGrath, Noel Hogan, Paddy O'Donoghue and Raimonda Rakina," Tom went on to say.
Work will be carried out in two phases with the club being closed from October 1st to the 7th to facilitate contractors.
UPWARD AND ONWARD FOR THE CLUB
Fermoy have made a very encouraging start to the Cork snooker league and their team is a nice mixture of youth and experience. This year's panel comprises: Tom Aherne, Daithi Whelan, Derek Murphy, Robbie Donovan, Alan Cleary, Mick Casey, John Dorgan, Kevin Hegarty and David Joyce - another man making waves at the club is the very talented Robert Broderick.
New members are always welcome and the annual €50 fee for a working adult represents excellent value - the rate for unemployed individuals and students is €20. The new membership year starts on 1st October, if interested contact any of the above. These are exciting times for everyone associated with Fermoy Snooker Club, an ambitious sporting organisation that's busy planning for the future.
