Many hearts were saddened on Monday morning last when the news broke that Fermoy’s well loved postman Tommy Feerick, had passed away suddenly.

The jovial character who lived at The Laurels on Barry’s Boreen, always had a smile and a joke for everyone he met on his daily rounds and his unexpected passing at Cork University Hospital came as a shock to the whole town.

The Feerick family are synonymous with Fermoy and many will remember Tommy’s late father Mattie Feerick, a renowned tailor and Irish stepdancer.

Tommy was a loving husband to Elaine (nee Murphy), a caring father to his daughters Ciara, Ashling and Tara, an adoring grandad to Reanna, Haley and Tommy, a kind brother to Jerry, Harper, Mag (Linehan), Gail and Stephen and a wonderful son to his mother Abby.

He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him including his colleagues at An Post, where he served for over 20 years. We extend our sincere sympathy to his grieving family.

The Fermoy man rarely left a parcel undelivered as he knew everyone in the town and they all looked forward to the knock on the door.

Messages of sympathy have been pouring in from staff of An Post from Lismore, Watergrasshill, Mallow and further afield as they grieve the sudden death of their colleague and dear friend.

Tommy will lie in repose at Ronayne’s Funeral Home on this Friday, October 4 from 5.30pm until 7.30pm followed by removal to St Patrick’s Church.

His funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Saturday followed by cremation at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.
