Random acts of kindness were seen throughout the different facets of the community in Fermoy, as the town marked their second Friendship Week last week.
With a number of events in the schools focussed on random acts of kindness and extending kindness and friendship to others, young people were encouraged to embrace the messages that the week offered.
The week included a talk to students in Fermoy from ex Mountjoy governor, John Lonergan and also a talk for parents, while there was something for all ages with a social gathering organised by the Fermoy Men's Club to wrap up the week on Thursday last.
The men's club was set up in July 2011 and they attended Friendship Week last year. This year however they were a central part of the event, as their social gathering leant another dimension to the week.
VARIED ENTERTAINMENT
Throughout the afternoon on Thursday last in Fermoy Youth Centre, there was story telling, music, songs and dancing, with refreshments served afterwards. The enjoyable event had 93 people in attendance and was a great testament to the Fermoy Men's Club, who started out with just 20 members and now have approximately 60.
Special guests were Mary Allen of Avondhu Blackwater and Brendan Scahill of the HSE, while active retirement groups from Fermoy, Glanworth, Doneraile and Kilworth were also represented.
Fermoy Men's Club members who performed included Michael Dunne who was also the MC, Liam Fenton, Donal Murphy, David Roche, John Shortt, Jim Bartley, Nick Nolan, Michael Reidy, Neilus O'Flynn, John O'Mahony, Ted O'Leary and Kevin Wilcox.
Even though the event was organised by the men's club, Carmel O'Connor also took to the stage for a performance and the musicians on the day were Ciaran O'Connor, Michael Lovett and Willie Walsh.
