Three members of the Fermoy branch of Chernobyl Children International flew to Belarus on Monday evening to spend a week visiting and providing funds to children in need.

Denise Murphy is making her 16th trip to Belarus, along with Mary Lee (second trip) and Shelagh Hogan (third trip). Last year they travelled to No 7 Orphanage to visit Marina, who stays with Shelagh on holidays.

On the trip they were able to bring some of the children to McDonalds, but on return it was decided that next time they would aim to bring all the children in the orphanage to McDonalds.

Undergoing a large fundraising initiative, over €1,000 was raised to pay thanks to helps from friends, family, work colleagues and Karen’s Beauty Salon.

In addition, some of the children and their parents of Fermoy Community Pre-School Playgroup organised a Pyjamas Day, which raised a further €1,000 which will be used to help the Chernobyl Children’s Project directly.
