The urgent need for footpath repairs outside Charlie Mac's premises on MacCurtain Street was discussed at the recent monthly meeting of Fermoy Town Council.

Cllr Noel McCarthy had tabled a motion calling for the work to be done. That work and other projects was to have been done from monies allocated by the National Roads Authority (NRA) for repairs following the construction of the bypass. Members were recently informed that the allocation was given to Cork County Council to be disbursed and was used for some works in the town and others in Rathcormac and that no further funding would be forthcoming.

Cllr Noel Barnes seconded Cllr McCarthy's motion and said he'd taken the matter up with the NRA but had it confirmed that there would be no further funding. He stressed however that the money was needed to fix the footpath which was "very bad."

Cllr Pa O'Driscoll said they needed to take it up with the NRA again and keep the pressure on. "The rest of MacCurtain Street is fine," he remarked. It was agreed to continue to campaign to have the NRA allocate money for the repairs.
