This year’s cancellation of St Patrick’s day festivities for the second year in a row came as no surprise, but Fermoy Concert Band decided to celebrate anyway – online! We have recorded two of our most popular march pieces for you to share and enjoy.
It was a case of creating a massed band – from Fermoy Concert Band, Fermoy Youth Band and Fermoy Training Band – by recording themselves individually at home, then blending over sixty individual recordings into one for the final video.
The first march, ‘School Spirit’ by WT Purdy, was chosen to showcase the members of the Fermoy Training Band, with the support of the other two bands.
This band is a developmental band for beginner musicians, conducted by Lisa Dunphy. The second march is a real classic, ‘Notre Dame March’ by the legendary John Philip Souza.
Here, the Youth Band took the spotlight, supported by the more advanced Concert Band members. Ruairí Dineen conducts both bands normally, and was musical director of the overall recording process.
The video was introduced with great enthusiasm by Gearóid Dineen, the band’s number one supporter!
