Fermoy Business Action Group is continuing its preparations for a real community Christmas this year. As well as a Christmas market taking place on the streets on the weekends of December 6th, 7th and 14th and 15th, Santa Claus will arrive in time for the switching on of the Christmas lights on Friday, December 6th at 6pm.

During his stay in Fermoy, Santa will have an interactive mini chocolate factory in his grotto beside Supermacs in Pearse Square for all budding chocolatiers and chocoholics to enjoy! Children can try their hand at decorating and bring their own design home, if it lasts that long! Kartoon Kapers will be there too so there'll be a chance to meet some well loved characters such as Minnie Mouse, Dora and Spongebob Squarepants.

They are also planning a walkabout on the streets of Fermoy on Saturday, December 6th to meet even more children. Santa and his grotto are being supported by two local business people, Tom Ahern of The Wagon Tavern and Mark Hayes of O'Briens Sandwich Bar.

It's also planned to have a taster of this year's panto 'Sleeping Beauty' which will be staged at the Community Youth Centre on the weekends of January 10th, 11th and 12th and 17th, 18th and 19th of January. An excerpt from the show will be performed in Pearse Square on the Friday night, December 6.

Food and other stalls will line the square, giving a real festive atmosphere, the food stalls serving up culinary treats while the market stall will offer goods from local food producers, arts and crafts.

There'll be face painting, carol and choir singing from the Fermoy Choral Society and junior Concert Band and Ceol Coolroe. There'll be arts performances and the Farrelly School of Dancing will feature.

At the local library, storytelling will start the day's activities on the Saturday at 11am. Plenty of entertainment then, for all ages.

Shoppers too will not be forgotten with a blitz weekend on Saturday and Sunday (7th and 8th) which promises plenty of good value buys and special offers.

Fermoy Business Action Group is inviting any group or committee that would like to participate during the weekend of December 6th and 7th to contact either Susan at Hickeys, Joy at Vanilla, Geraldine at Hegarty Fabrics or Adrian at Oaktree Financial Services. They'll be holding an open meeting regarding Christmas in Fermoy at The Torten  on Tuesday next, November 26th at 6.15pm.

Full details of what's planned for Christmas in Fermoy will be published in a special feature in The Avondhu next week.
