The 150-year-old bridge in Fermoy is now officially known as Kent Bridge. The bridge has been named in honour of Castlelyons native and Irish patriot Thomas Kent, one of 16 men executed for their role – either directly or indirectly – in the Easter Rising of 1916.

The naming of the bridge can be seen as pertinent given the upcoming 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising next year, as well as the fact that the remains of Thomas Kent were exhumed earlier this year and reburied in Castlelyons.
