The acoustics in the bandstand in the Town Park in Fermoy “are terrible” and it is completely under-utilised, town Councillor Noel Barnes told the members meeting last week.

He had a motion before the meeting calling for the town council to put forward a proposal for a new bandstand or stage in the park. His motion was seconded by Cllr. Noel McCarthy who agreed and said it should be used more.

Cllr. Colette Dolan Moore asked if it was proposed to get rid of the old band stand. She wouldn’t be in favour of that, she said, as it is a feature of the park. Cllr. Barnes said that would be costly. He wondered if the existing bandstand could be adjusted to improve the acousicts.

Cllr. John Murphy said the back wall was the problem, it was affecting the acoustics. He suggested it could be taken out and replaced with a railing. Cllr. Tadhg O’Donovan asked that the motion be changed to recommend a course of action and that was agreed.
