Fermoy apprentice takes top award

Fermoy-based apprentice mechanic Michael Sheehan, scooped the top award at the Society of Operations Engineers annual awards recently.

Fermoy-based apprentice mechanic Michael Sheehan, scooped the top award at the Society of Operations Engineers annual awards recently.

Martin, from Mallow, works in Blackwater Motors in Fermoy. He was nominated for the award by Limerick Institute of Technology.

Cork-based Ireland Munster Centre, a local branch of the transport organisation Institute of Road Transport Engineers, was named International Region of the Year by IRTE's umbrella body, the Society of Operations Engineers, for its contribution to promoting road transport engineering in the Munster region.

The centre, founded in 1982, promotes lifelong learning for local engineers and encourages young technicians and apprentices involved in road transport across Munster. SOE is based in the UK and has international regions in Ireland, South Africa and Hong Kong.
