Last weeks successful ‘Fermoy Against Bullying’ week was hailed by Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Chairman Sean Hegarty as an important step on the road towards highlighting this serious issue, especially among teenagers.

Recent tragic events have shown the devastating consequences that can result from the bullying that some teenagers experience on social media sites, and Fermoy Against Bullying week sought to raise this issue with a series of seminars and talks held throughout the week.

“I commend the actions of the Fermoy Family Coordinating Group for their hard work in making the Fermoy Against Bullying Week such a success” Sean said this week. “To organise speakers of the calibre of Val Mullally, Fergus Heffernan, Willie Daly, Ciaran McKinney and representatives from McAfee Internet Security was a great achievement.

“Garda Kathryn Canty’s presentation on bullying and the law also showed that bullying is something that can also have legal consequences. All in all, it was an outstanding line up and a great credit to the organisation. I look forward to seeing the work of the group progress into the future”.

The Fermoy Family Coordinating Group consists of a representatives from statutory and voluntary groups in the Fermoy area who meet monthly to discuss and respond to issues relevant to supporting families and community development for the area of Fermoy. They can be found on Facebook at Fermoy Against Bullying where up-to-date information will be posted.
