The heritage of Cork county is vast and rich, and next week, Mitchelstown Heritage Society will give people an insight into it with a talk from Cork County Council Heritage Officer, Conor Nelligan.

The free talk is open to everyone and will take place in the Town Hall on Thursday next, April 24 at 8.15pm after the society's AGM.

Conor will speak about his work as a heritage officer, from working on things like recording ancient graves and heritage tourism to working with schools and communities to foster developments around protecting our built and natural heritage.

"One of Conor's more high profile and contentious cases recently has been the fight to save the Presentation Convent in Mitchelstown. Conor has worked closely with the Heritage Society and other parties to ensure the action is taken to save our built heritage before it's too late," the Chairperson of the heritage society, Andrew Dineen explained. 

Conor began working in Cork County Council in 2007 and he has been Heritage Officer since 2011. 

He has a BA in Geography and Economics from UCC, a Masters in Regional and Urban Planning from UCD and also recently complted a Diploma in Field Ecology in UCC.

Andrew said that this talk is not to be missed for anyone with an interest and passion in history and local heritage, as it gives a unique insight into the work that heritage officers do to protect, promote and enhance all aspects of heritage.

All are welcome to the free lecture and there will be refreshments afterwards.
