Founded in 1996, Fanahan McSweeney Athletic Club has introduced hundreds of children to the world of track and field. Always keen to freshen things up, officers have commenced 2015 with a 'relaunch' which it hopes will revitalise their activities.

The club's first such session took place in Mitchelstown Leisure Centre on Friday, January 16th and generated huge interest. This magnificent venue was delighted to welcome so many enthusiastic young people, all of whom were made feel very welcome by highly trained coaches.

Having got a taste for running, jumping and throwing, the intention is to introduce participants to further disciplines in the weeks ahead. Training continues in Mitchelstown Leisure Centre next Friday between 7 and 8pm - everyone welcome and sessions cost just €2 per juvenile.

Ben Lynch, who worked tirelessly to bring the Mitchelstown Leisure Centre project to fruition, said he was delighted with the 'buzz' associated with the relaunch and he wishes the club every success for 2015.

'COUCH TO 5K'

The 'Couch to 5k' training programme is aimed at getting members of the public 'race ready' in just 8 weeks. Ambitious but do-able, the initiative is being held in association with Operation Transformation, Tesco and Mitchelstown A Healthy Town. This is a perfect opportunity to turn away from the remote control and set about achieving a realistic goal that will bring with it all kinds of physical and mental benefits.
