Lismore Heritage Centre will start 2014 with a brand new look. The ground floor of the centre is to be transformed in a major renovation project with the help of funding from Waterford Leader Partnership. .
Peter Dowd, representing the board of directors of Lismore Heritage Company, signed the contract with Flavin Brothers on Tuesday of this week to carry out the renovation works. They’ll commence almost immediately and to facilitate construction, the visitor centre and in-house craft shop will be closed to the public from December 19th. A grand re-opening is planned for Easter 2014.
Mealla Fahey, project manager at Lismore Heritage Company says it’s a very exciting time in the centre. “This facelift will be one of the milestones in the heritage centre’s history. The ground floor will be opened up completely to make the building more inviting and to provide a better visitor experience.
“It has taken quite a while to get the project to this point. When dealing with a structure such as the courthouse building where Lismore Heritage Centre is based, there are conservation issues to consider and it is important that any developments are in keeping with the character and integrity of the building. We are confident that we have a plan that will ensure that no aspect of the centre’s character is compromised,” she said.
Lismore Heritage Centre will keep the public up to date with ongoing developments and renovations on www.discoverlismore.com.
