Members of Lismore Heritage Centre travelled to Galway recently to showcase the heritage town and its attractions and amenities.

"It was our first time marketing the region directly in the west and the response was overwhelmingly positive," Mealla Fahey said of her attendance with Alice O'Donoghue at the Senior Times Over 50s Show in Salthill. The heritage centre was promoting its 'Great Days Out' group outing package that invites clubs to visit Lismore and the surrounding area. Visitors can, for example, visit the heritage centre, Lismore Castle gardens and Castle Arts and enjoy lunch in the town. Visiting groups can also choose to visit another of the area's grand gardens such as Ballylin, Tourin, Dromana, Salterbridge or Cappoquin.

POSITIVE PROMOTION

There was an opportunity at the show to also promote local businesses such as the Cosy Meadows Plant Nursery, Barron's Bakery, Baldwin's Ice Cream and Knockanore Cheese. Two other big draws for visitors, Mount Melleray and the Vee, were also featured along with Lismore Cycling Holidays and Blackwater Boating.

Mealla Fahey says the 'Great Days Out' option, whereby all arrangements and bookings are made by the heritage centre on visitors' behalf, has proven particularly popular with Active Retirement Groups "so the Senior Times show was the ideal place for us to meet prospective visitors."

"If the feedback on the ground in Galway is anything to go by, Lismore will see an influx of groups from the west of Ireland enjoying Great Days Out in West Waterford in 2014," Alice O'Donoghue said.
