Value of continuing education highlighted by Cork student living in Rathcormac
The HSE are expanding mental health services in Mitchelstown, as the North Cork Mental Health Services will move to a new premises in Cahir Hill – this will see the service grow from a three day to a five day service.
The services will be moving from their current base at Tearmonn Ui Chaoimh on James Street and there will be no change to the current day care services offered there. Mental health services are also offered in the Living Health Clinic. Some of the new services, which will be provided in the Cahir Hill premises include groups for men, women and young people, urgent assessments, dance movement therapy, out patient clinics, family and student education groups and behaviour therapy groups.
PROMOTING POSITVE MENTAL HEALTH
Welcoming the expansion of services, Clare Griffin, assistant director of Nursing, North Cork Mental Health Services said that this new premises and expansion of services is in response to a need for more services, particularly for younger people.
“This will allow our team of professionals working in mental health to offer individual sessions and also to offer more enhanced, integrated group sessions in the new premises. It is vital for the promotion of positive mental health that we engage with the community of Mitchelstown and we hope to commence specific group sessions in the coming months,” she said.
The news has been welcomed by Minister Sean Sherlock, who said that the services will now meet the needs of people in the area, particularly the younger population.
