The last couple of years haven't been dull for management and staff of Mellerick's Pharmacy in Fermoy. Severe storm damage necessitated the landmark Patrick Street chemist relocating across the road - an experience that everyone could have done without.

The good news is that Mellerick's Pharmacy has returned to its original side of street, in a spacious and well laid premises (number 24) that was formally re-opened on Saturday last.

Like most things that Orla Mellerick does, there weren't any half measures and a marquee was erected at the rear of the store (adjacent to car park) to cater for the very substantial crowd who turned out to wish Orla and her team the very best for the future.

The future and past were topical subjects last Saturday as many of Mrs Ann Mellerick's family, neighbours and friends reflected on how much has changed since Jimmy Mellerick (Orla's father) served his time in Broderick's during the 1940s, Jimmy eventually purchased the business and together with his wife, Ann, they built up a thriving pharmacy.

The pharmacy business continues to evolve and the new-look Mellerick's also accommodates the Well & Good Health Store - which focuses on healthy eating, natural products and homoeopathic remedies - Marion Condon is heading up this side of the business.

Good timing is always an advantage in retailing and a sizeable percentage of those in Mellerick's last Saturday were ticking items off their Christmas list - they had plenty to choose from when it came to cosmetics, presentation packs, perfumes and toiletries and beauty products.

It's been a busy and exciting end to 2014 for everyone associated with Mellerick's Pharmacy and after what will be a very enjoyable Christmas, staff are looking forward to 2015 with confidence and optimism.
