"Possibly one of the best programmes in the 11 years we have been in operation," is how the organisers of this years North Cork Classical Music described what's in store for 2014.

"We have the RTE Contempo Quartet on board this year for the first time and are thrilled to have ensembles such as The Vanbrugh Quartet, Voce Di Donna, The Cologne Philharmonic Ensemble and guitarist Pat Coldrick back with us," Liam Howard said this week. "There will be concerts in Mitchelstown (St George's Church), Farahy (St Colman's Church), Castleltownroche (St Mary's Church) and Kilworth (Village Arts Centre)," he said.

The season kicks off with a concert in St George's Church, Mitchelstown on Friday, May 30 with 'Orpheus & Friends at St Georges' - a concert that will see The Orpheus Choir under the direction of Hilary Reynolds, feature as soloists Catherine O’Carroll (soprano) and Andrew Thomson (baritone). There too will be the local James Fitzgerald Memorial Band under the baton of Seanie Chamberlain and with Seanie and Hilary putting their heads together on this one - we can expect a rousing finale to the night.

Tickets for the opening concert are €15 or 2 for €25 and are now on sale (see below).

The second concert sees the first visit of the Contempo Quartet to the area when they give a recital in St Colman's Church, Farahy on Sunday afternoon, 15th June (starting time to be confirmed).

The other attractions that will make up this year's NCCM programme will include The Vanbrugh Quartet (June 26), Voce Di Donna (July 10), guitarist Pat Coldrick (July date to be confirmed) and The Cologne Philharmonic Ensemble make a welcome return on August 15.

Full details of the concert programmes etc., will be carried at a later date.
