For the past quarter of a century, people from Mitchelstown Parish and surrounding areas have made a commitment to the Church, by uniting together for the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. This week, a special Mass concelebrated by Bishop William Crean and Canon Michael Fitzgerald marked the 25-year anniversary of the adoration.

Mass was very well attended with some of the founding members present for the wonderful occasion. There was a great social occasion afterwards, as people caught up with each other and also got to chat to the bishop in a social setting.

PRESENTATIONS

Canon Fitzgerald acknowledged Nora and Con Hogan with a presentation on the night, as he said that they have put an enormous amount of work into keeping the adoration going over the years. He also acknowledged the people of Mitchelstown, Ballygiblin and Kilacluig and also those from surrounding parishes, who have worked so hard to maintain the adoration. 

"The adoration is like a uniting force across the parishes," Canon Fitzgerald said.

He added that a lot of young people would drop into the adoration and it's great to see them being part of something wider. While they do have young members, they are always looking for new members of all ages, to ensure that the adoration is continued well into the future.

A presentation was also made to Prionsias Condon, who has played the organ in the parish for the past 50 years, in both the old and new church.

The Canon explained that people who are going through tough times would often drop into the adoration and it is something they would find comfort and solace from.

The Mass was concelebrated by Bishop William Crean and Canon Fitzgerald, while Canon O'Leary, Canon Kelleher, Fr Patrick Cahill, Fr Richard Kelly, Fr Pat Winkle (the Diocesan director of the adoration), Fr Pat Linehan and Fr Anthony Wickham were also in attendance. 

Please note that the Corpus Christi procession will take place after 12 noon Mass this Sunday, June 22nd.
