Young Ellie Forde from Kilworth has made her family, teachers and school very proud indeed, with her winning entry in the EBS and INTO 2013 National Handwriting Competition.

It's the first time the school has had a winner in the competition which runs alongside the annual campaign to highlight the importance of having good handwriting. The competition has been running for 21 years and is open to pupils of national schools across Ireland.

Nine-year-old Ellie, a third class pupil at Scoil Mhairtin, Kilworth, was presented with her award at a prizegiving ceremony held in Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork recently. She's now through to the national finals. Ellie was presented with her prize by Ann Fay, INTO President - a Fermoy woman and local teacher. It was one of Ann's last functions as INTO President as her term came to an end.

So delighted were Ellie's teachers, Mrs. Cronin and Ms. Feeney, that they travelled to the ceremony to see Ellie get her prize, along with her proud mam and dad, Liz and Dave Forde. Well done Ellie!
