The Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Active Retirement Ireland (ARI) Peter Kavanagh, has expressed serious concern that Ireland’s older people struggle to maintain a healthy and adequate life on a limited income.
Launching its Pre-Budget Submission at the Department of Social Protection Pre-Budget Forum, ARI, the country’s largest older people’s charity, called on the Government to further increase the State Pension.
Mr Kavanagh stressed that in order for the State Pension, both Contributory and Non-Contributory, to continue to act as a buffer against poverty and restore faith in an adequate income, the State Pension must be further increased by a minimum of €5 per week, as promised in the General Election of 2016.
