This is the third duck kill he has endured in 11 years and that these kind of dogs should not be allowed out loose and should not be kept as household pets.

A duck farmer, who was dealt a serious blow this week when a dog ravaged two of his ducks, is calling for a dog warden to be put on duty in the Mitchelstown area.

Martin Roche of James Street, Mitchelstown, keeps a number of ducks behind his house, but he returned from a doctor's appointment on Friday last to discover a vicious husky dog ravaging two of his ducks and mauling more of them.

Martin said that if he hadn't come home at that time, all of his ducks could have been wiped out. As soon as he saw the dog, Mr Roche called the gardai, but the dog could not be captured and he said that if a dog warden was available, it would have been possible to apprehend the animal.

He added that this is the third duck kill he has endured in 11 years and that these kind of dogs should not be allowed out loose and should not be kept as household pets.

Mr Roche warned that huskies are of a wolf breed and are very dangerous and he said that he expects to lose more ducks as time goes on, as he had to put two to sleep because they are so badly injured and others will not be able to survive from the fright of the incident.

In February, The Avondhu reported on a similar incident, where farmer Tommy Walsh from Anglesboro had a huge sheep kill after two boxers and a sheep dog had made their way into his land through the fields.
