While there have been many launches and events up till now, the launch of the national campaign for ‘Drive to Survive’ Ireland will take place this Sunday in Galbally. The Drive to Survive Campaign aims to mobilise the country to raise funds for hospices in Ireland.

The late councillor, John Gallahue, a community activist and committed fundraiser in his area, wanted to set up a national charity which would get people together to raise funds for cancer care. Now committed people from the Ballylanders and Anglesboro areas are now turning his wish into reality.

They in turn are looking for people in every part of the country to host fundraisers in their local area which will contribute to the overall fund and which will go to every hospice in the country. Fundraisers can be small or big and no amount is too little or too large to be considered.

Leading by example, the local committee is holding the launch during its coffee morning at Tigh Roy, Ionad Cultúrtha, Gallybally this Sunday as part of the annual traditional Irish music summer school Éigse Eatharlaí. Beginning at 12.30pm, as well as enjoying refreshments, those who attend are guaranteed good music and dance. There will also be an opportunity to view up close the 1920 model T Ford trucks that’ll be touring Ireland from August 9th to 15h, raising funds for hospices throughout the country. All are invited along on Sunday to support the event and enjoy the proceedings.

Dan Gallahue, who has spearheaded efforts to get the Drive to Survive initiative up and running said this week he’s delighted that his father’s dream is being realised. “It’s a very worthwhile campaign that can be of great benefit,” he said.

Glenbrohane Community Council has rowed in behind the campaign, organising a 5k fun run/walk for this Friday as a fundraiser for them. They’re seeking all possible support for the event.
