Last Saturday, 175 children attended Centra’s family community event in Pairc Ui Rinn, to catch a glimpse of two of the best hurlers in the country, Anthony Nash and Patrick Horgan. The two stars were on hand to give the young aspiring hurlers from local Cork clubs the chance to showcase their hurling skills and show them the future of Cork hurling!
This year, Centra celebrates their fifth year as sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship and throughout the summer, Ireland’s largest convenience retailer are bringing together the brightest stars of hurling for 16 fun community events in GAA clubs all-round the country. This was the second event to visit Cork, with the first event haven taken place in Clonakilty GAA Club.
Girls and boys from around the county turned out in their droves to take part in the very special hurling skills session and learn from some of the best in the game. As well the skills session, the children got to enjoy a great family day out that brought the whole community together with a host of entertainment on the day including face painting, a hurling simulator, goodie bags, with Red FM on site to add to the festivities.
DONERAILE’S BRIGHT STAR
Centra were also on the hunt for the Brightest Young Star of the day, with a few lucky children getting the opportunity to be questioned by their hurling heroes and give their view on the game! Colm Hannon, from Doneraile, was chosen as Centra’s Brightest Young Star of Cork and you will be able to see why on Centra Ireland Facebook page www.facebook.com/centraireland. Colm won a signed Centra jersey and a €100 Centra gift card for his family. He is also now in with a chance of winning an incredible trip for his family to the All-Ireland Hurling final later this year.
This event was supported by local Centra retailers, including Herlihy’s Centra, Fermoy; Ross’ Centra, Watergrasshill and Gradon’s Centra, Sallybrooke, Glanmire. For more information on Centra’s community events throughout the summer pop into your local Centra store or go to www.centra.ie
