The man in the hot seat at this year's West Waterford Drama Festival is well know actor, director and playwright Donal Courtney.

A native of Killarney, Co Kerry and son of the late Michael Courtney, a local Fine Gale and later Labour councillor, Donal now lives in Maynooth.

He graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting where he undertook a full time acting programme. He subsequently went on undertake a course in theatre directing at the University of Ulster in 1997 and underwent stage and film combat at the British Academy of Dramatic Combat in 2002.

No stranger to the adjudicator's chair at drama festivals, he has recently been seen in 'Fair City' as Alan Murray on RTE 1; he played the Commissioner in 'The Tudors' on TV and has starred in numerous plays, both as and actor and director.

And who knows, as he possesses a fine tenor voice, we may coax a number or two out of him on the final night!
