With little in the way of opposing events, last Sunday's Diecast Model Show in Conna had 'a clear run' and organisers were delighted with the several hundred strong crowd that turned up.

Organised by Mike and Tom Leahy, Conna Sports Complex venue provided a near perfect setting for diecast model enthusiasts to showcase their extensive wares. Exhibitors and stand holders could be termed 'regulars' on the diecast scene and as with any network, they are all on first name terms.

Boys make up a large percentage of those displaying farm yard sets, complete with buildings, machinery, animals and a variety of other agricultural fixtures and fittings. This particular pursuit is very labour intensive and the support of parents, plus a spacious vehicle is vital, especially in the transporting of these elaborate sets.

There was a steady stream of visitors throughout the course of the afternoon and side-by-side with the business end of things, patrons were also able to relax and enjoy refreshments. Volunteers drawn from a number of Conna-based groups all chipped in and in this instance, many hands did make light work.

The model show raffle was well supported and the event returned a healthy profit which is great news for the beneficiaries - Conna Sports Complex and Conna Social Centre.

Organisers are grateful to all those who manned stands and to the public who took time to attend. The event was a tremendous success, evidence of the big impact these small models continue to have on so many people.
