This weekend, there will be a course in CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and first aid in Kilbehenny Community Centre.

Facilitated by the Clonmel Heart Saver and organised by Jim O’Brien of the Ballyporeen and Skeheenarinky Defibrillator Group, the course will take place on Friday, June 28 at 7pm and on Saturday, June 29 at 11am, with a charge of €30 per person. The course will cover all aspects of CPR for adults, children and infants, while the heartsaver AED will teach people how to use an Automated External Defibrillator.

In Kilbehenny, the defibrillator is mounted on the wall in front of the community centre and a rota system is in place with 12 people trained in AED and CPR.

“Our defibrillator group would like if more local people came on board and people from outside the area are also welcome to do the course. All participants will receive a wallet size certification card from the Irish Heart Foundation which is valid for two years,” Moss Fitzgerald said.

He added that anyone in need of the emergency defibrillator should first contact 999 or 112 and then the 24-hour Kilbehenny number 087 6461605. To book a place on the course or to enquire about other available dates, contact Moss Fitzgerald on 087 8214991.
