The news that John Murphy of Ballyoran (Kenny's Cross), Castlelyons had died suddenly on Monday morning came as an immense shock to his neighbours and large circle of friends.

John (63), had been out for a cycle in the neighbourhood with his wife Kate and stopped to take a phone call from his friends in COPE Foundation, Fermoy when he was hit by a massive heart attack and died instantaneously.

The news came as a huge shock to his many friends in the local amateur drama movement, to his friends in COPE and to his colleagues in Moorepark where he worked for many years up until his retirement in 2009.

John who was pre-deceased by his parents and only brother Con, is survived by his wife Kate, daughter Claire (Armstrong), grandchildren Kate and Leo, son-in-law Gordon.

A gathering of remembrance for John will be held in Moorepark on this Thursday at 12 noon to which everyone is welcome. Cremation will take place at the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy at 2pm. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

JIM RYALL

Shock too greeted news of the death on Sunday of James (Jim) Ryall of Carrigabrick Lodge, Fermoy. A native of Ballindangan and a former member of the Irish Army & UN Peace Keeping force, Jim spent many years in London. He is survived by his daughters Aishling and Niamh, sisters, Ellen, Mary, Brid and Joanne and brother David.
Jim was laid to rest in Brigown Cemetery Mitchelstown on Wednesday.

FATAL ACCIDENT

There was heartbreak also for a Ballynoe family following the death of Tomás Beecher who was tragically killed when he was struck in a hit-and-run incident by a vehicle in Cambodia on Sunday. Tomás (30), was struck while attempting to cross Monivong Boulevard at about 1.30am. (See full story elsewhere this issue).

To the families of all three, we extend our deepest sympathy.
