Spirits were high on Lapp’s Quay in Cork city on Thursday, November 2nd, as Tequila Jack’s unveiled their new colourful sugar skull to celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday ‘Day of the Dead’ (El Día de las Muertos).
‘Day of the Dead’ is celebrated in Mexico annually, to commemorate family and friends who have died and to pray for their spiritual journey.
The celebrations are marked by the painting of decorative sugar skulls. José Baruch Romal (pictured) a Mexican native who now lives in Cork, helped bring the festivities to life along with the Tequila Jack’s staff as he celebrated winning a recent online competition, channeling a native flair to decorate the restaurant’s newest addition, a giant sugar skull.
His winning submission was brought to life by local artist Zelen Tshabangu.
