Daniel Shinnick remembered in Castletown’

As a Flying Column member under the command of Liam Lynch, Daniel Shinnick’s contribution to the fight for Irish freedom is well documented.

While his final resting place is the Republican Plot in Kilcrumper Old Cemetery, there was no permanent reminder connecting him with his place of birth – Rathnadarrihy in Castletownroche.

This situation was rectified last Sunday with the formal unveiling of a plaque at the Linehan/Shinnick homestead, a short distance from Castletownroche, on the Doneraile road.

A small committee, comprising members of the Cotter and Linehan families, assisted by former T.D. Ned O’Keeffe and his long-time secretary, Mary Carolan, were responsible for organising the event.
