Dairygold workers who were the first to carry out a course in retail knowledge through E-Learning in Ireland and the UK, were recognised this week with certificates presented to them in Springfort Hall.

Eleven participants were awarded the cert for Level 2 Retail Knowledge and the Dairygold HR Manager, Philip Doocey said that at a time when other companies are cutting their training budgets by up to 70%, it is something that Dairygold are continuing to invest in.

"Congratulations to you all, it's a great achievement. We are pleased to be investing in training and we are going to be launching a retail development programme and will be announcing the details over the coming weeks," Mr Doocey said.

He added that training likes this gives them the opportunity to equip employees the skillset to progress their careers.

Jim Copeland of Irish Hardware remarked that the employees were lucky to be working for such a forward looking company.

The course was run by Susan Madden of Retail Training Consultancy and she pointed out that while sales assistant is the biggest single occupation in the country, there is the lowest number of education and training opportunities for them and that is what she set out to change when she set the company up twenty years ago.

She added that the qualification will be recognised internationally and that the course captured the natural talent of the employees and built on their strengths.

The eleven certificate recipients were from the Dairygold stores around Cork, Tipperary, Limerick and Clare. They included Tara Bermingham and Orla Fitzgerald from Mallow, Catriona Lonergan from Cahir, Richard Lane of Midleton, and from other areas; Damien Nation, Joyce McNabb, Brian Dineen, Tadhg Healy, Eileen Kelleher, Sarah Moore and Gerard Quinn.
