In an effort to encourage families to come to school in an environmentally friendly manner, CBS Primary, Bunscoil na Toirbhirte and Bright Sparks in Mitchelstown, have come together to launch their Green School travel programme with a series of 'WOW' - Walk on Wednesday - walks.

Before Christmas, representatives from the two schools along with Bright Sparks, were met by a representative from An Taisce and they carried out a 'walkability audit' of the schools and the town.

CARPOOL OR PARK AND STRIDE

Claire Devaney of Bright Sparks explained that if some children can't walk to school, they could perhaps carpool with their neighbours or do a park and stride from different locations, so as to reduce the amount of traffic going to the schools and Bright Sparks.

"The three different committees have been busy working together to finalise the programme and it will be officially launched in February. The boys and girls in the committee are eagerly looking forward to what this new year holds and to involving the whole school community in this exciting new initiative," Claire said.
